Our Story

Created from lived experience,
not a gap analysis.

Cozie Dozie Co was born in Mount Larcom, Central Queensland — from a mother's real need to create a portable, sensory-safe space for her children. Not from a market report. Not from a trend. From five months of motherhood and a problem that needed solving.

I needed something for myself during a really challenging time. The Joey became something for me — and then for every family like mine.

The beginning — July 2025

Emma James-Skey had been a hairdresser since she was 16. After having her third child — five months postpartum, in a small Central Queensland town with no childcare — she knew she couldn't go back to full-time work. She also knew that her family needed something she couldn't find anywhere on the market: a portable, sensory-safe space that could be a kindy rest mat, a camping swag, a sensory regulation space, and a reading nook all at once.

So she designed it herself. The Joey Cozie Dozie pattern was created in July 2025 — from lived experience, on Country, for the Country way of living.

02

Country, culture & identity

Emma is a proud Gamilaraay/Kamilaroi and English woman. Cozie Dozie Co was not designed in a city studio — it was designed On Country in Central Queensland, shaped by the landscape, the people, and the way families here actually live.

The Colour of Country Collection reflects this directly: Ochre from the red earth, Quartz from the saltflats and stone, and BowerBird Blue from the deep country sky. As the family grew, so did the story — The Ringer's Trail Collection carries that same connection further still, tracing the journey from cattle station to coastline in tones of Sea Moss and beyond.

Connection to Country is not decoration in this brand. It is the foundation.

03

Neurodiversity, family & the allied health moment

Emma is a neurodivergent mother raising neurodivergent children. Her eldest daughter, who is being assessed for autism, uses her Joey as a safe space — for self-regulation, for sensory calm, especially when out in public. Watching the Joey quietly do that work every day is why the sensory regulation angle of the product is not a marketing add-on. It is the whole point.

Within months of launch, her daughter's allied health and mental health team purchased Joeys for their therapy rooms. Emma describes it as her proudest moment. A product she made for her own family, now in the hands of the professionals who support children every day.

This business has grown from one product into a collection that reflects our family, our lifestyle and our passion for creating innovative, sustainable Australian products.
